Manas, a school-going boy living near the India-Bangladesh border, stayed with his parents and grandmother in a large three-story house. His father, a government officer, hired two Muslim workers from Bangladesh, Kader and Moinul, to repaint unused rooms on the third floor. Although Manas’s grandmother disliked the idea, his father allowed them to work.
